                          Europa : 1991-1993

“Stupende e originale sono le foto di Bronstein...” ~ Firenze Agenda, 1992

After years of art school, a move to Italy in 1991, with extensive travel in Europe, unlocked the door to a strong sense of a personal vision and a freedom with the medium of photography. This was the beginning of years of
experimentation with ways of painting and toning black and white photographs, and exploring the relationship between painting & photography, and black & white imagery to colored imagery. Painting on photographs is both a meditation on an image and a re-interpretation of that which was recorded initially. The "original" photographic image acts as a springboard, a point of departure... Photographs in this series are unique silver gelatin fiber prints, painted or sprayed with sepia or copper toners, and painted with liquid watercolors.
